Lubiprostone (hemiketal) (RU-0211 (hemiketal)) is a selective chloride channel 2 (CLCN2) activator. Lubiprostone (hemiketal) is used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation and opioid-induced constipation by activating CLCN2 channels to increase chloride ion secretion in the intestine, thereby increasing intestinal fluid secretion and enhancing intestinal peristalsis.
